Amusan Advances to 100m Hurdles Semis at World Championships

World record holder Tobi Amusan of Nigeria secured a spot in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships, winning heat six on Sunday with a time of 12.53 seconds.
The 28-year-old’s commanding performance ensured automatic qualification, with Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton finishing second at 12.69 seconds and Italy’s Elena Carraro placing third at 12.86 seconds.
Other standout athletes, including Olympic champion Masai Russell of the USA, reigning world champion Danielle Williams of Jamaica, and Dutchwoman Nadine Visser, along with Ackera Nugent and Grace Stark, also advanced from their heats.
Amusan will return to the track on Tuesday for the semi-finals and final, aiming to add to a legacy built on years of dedication.
Elsewhere, Nigeria’s Sade Olatoye competed in the women’s hammer-throw during Sunday’s morning session but fell short of the final with a throw of 68.82 meters, missing the qualification mark. Later Sunday, Nigerians Kanyisola Ajayi and Israel Okon will compete in the men’s 100m semi-finals and final during the evening session, carrying hopes for further success.
This event, set against Tokyo’s vibrant athletic backdrop, showcases global talent amid Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to shine on the world stage.
